Shanghai Church's... quite a story

Church’s Shanghai: the daring icon of English shoes

Shanghai Church's

Created in 1929 for British people living in Asia, hence its name, this legendary shoe reappeared in 2009 after having disappeared for several decades when Church's rediscovered an archive model in its Northampton factory.

This faithful reissue marks a turning point: the house chooses to preserve the authenticity of the original design while highlighting its exceptional know-how. Each pair requires several hundred manufacturing steps, with particular attention paid to finishes, notably the patina created by hand.

The famous rubber sole “CHURCH CO”, developed specifically for this relaunch, becomes a signature in its own right, reinforcing the unique character of the model.

At Upper Shoes, it naturally finds its place with a clientele sensitive to shoemaking know-how and unconventional elegance. Wearing a Shanghai means affirming a vision of style where English tradition and creativity meet, to give birth to a shoe that is as unique as it is timeless.
